This is the dress I made for my daughter’s 3rd birthday, the ladybug dress. Also made the ladybug cake for the birthday party, check it here: https://sweetsourmoments.com/2016/02/16/ladybug-birthday-cake/
Bought this ladybug fabric and buttons from Jo-ann almost a year ago, aren’t they cute?
Can’t believe she is three, how come?
Does any of you notice that prior to this I’d never made my little one dress with collar? It’s because I didn’t know how to make it 🙂
Before I went back to Indonesia early of this year, I kept telling myself to not to forget to learn how to sew collar from my mom, particularly how to draw collar pattern. With all the hectic schedules and events, I eventually, in the last day during my stay, got to learn how to make the pattern which actually only took about 5 minutes, not as complicated as I thought.
So here it is, my first dress with collar.
And here is my favorite part,
I made this dress almost 3 months ago, only now be able to post it. My little one has a racer back top which I like very much and I thought it’d be cute for a dress with racer back style. You may notice the top is the same fabric I used in peach Tulle dress. Initially I was going to use pink color fabric for its upper part but I decided to go with this combination after seeing how well they work together, and I am happy with the final result.
This is my 1st DIY project this year and my 1st post in 2015… happy new year everyone!
To start the year I made my little one the dress for upcoming spring festival aka lunar new year which will be celebrated on Feb 19. For this special occasion people who celebrate it usually wear red color, it’s believed to bring luck and happiness. So here it is the red cherry blossom dress for my darling.
The 2 last months of the year is the best time for nice party dress, there are many occasions where one can wear pretty dresses… Start with thanksgiving, then christmas, and new year. This also is the best time for making tulle dress for my little one. First time sewing tulle dress, it actually is not as hard as I thought.. Don’t let the texture and the look of it intimidating you, it is manageable.
Believe it or not, I only spent less than 5 bucks for this dress and still got plenty fabric left. I name this dress Peach Tulle Dress, my little one wear it on thanksgiving day. It’s big enough to fit her until next summer I think 🙂
Hope it inspires you! Happy thanksgiving!
These are the fabric selections, the top fabric, the bottom fabric, lining fabric, and tulle.
Made a small rose, happy with how it adds extra cuteness 🙂
And here she is, my 21m darling in mommy’s made tulle dress.
I don’t usually find cute corduroy fabric in store, there are many options in online but not in store. This one is an exception, I got it from JoAnn and it’s on half price. Such a cute and perfect fabric for winter outfit.
It’s been couple months since my last dress project, my little one has been growing a lot, most of her summer dresses are too tight to fit her even for the next spring… and they also are not suitable for this weather now. So bigger and thicker dress is what she need. I adjusted the pattern to be able to fit her hopefully until next fall, it does look too big on her now especially around the armpit and waist… well too big is better than too small. I was also planning to add sleeves but then I thought sleeveless will be more versatile… she can still wear it with cardigan or sweater during the cold weater(without adding bulkiness to the arm areas) and the dress might works well during some breezy summer day.
So here it is the winter fox corduroy dress. Hope it inspires you!
My favorite part of this dress is the blue fabric that I got from JoAnn with 40% coupon. So classy, elegant, and also cute at the same time, children version of toile fabric. The design inspiration came from the romper I saw at Janie&Jack. Instead of romper, I changed it to dress. This dress is very versatile, it can be adjusted to adapt to my little one’s growth. When she is taller I just need to lower the tie, when she is bigger the elastic band on the waist area will still make her comfortable. Hopefully it brings you inspiration!
Isn’t it pretty?
